Practice listening and talking – It is important to have routine open and easy communication with your child. Don’t wait for a problem to arise, or a need to talk to your child necessitate, the need for talking. Talk about school, friends, activities, plans and goals that are going on in your lives.

Everyone needs their own space- Recognize that any persons that share a home need time together as well as time apart.

Parents are individuals too! Becoming a parent adds a new dimension to your life. It adds a role but does not change who you are or where you come from.

Your child needs a parent. Be one with all the rights and responsibilities of a parent such as disciplining, role modeling, loving and respecting your child.

Provide structure and stability. Children need, respect and want predictability in their life.

 

Setting a good example is the best way to teach your children how you want them to behave.

 

Make it a habit to spend time together.  For example, make bedtime into story time and read together.
