About Family
Outreach Family Outreach Clear Lake/Bay Area, Inc. is a volunteer organization working to prevent child abuse and strengthen family life through education and early intervention. Family Outreach is an incorporated, non-profit 501 © 3 agency administered by a board of directors that is focused on making our community safer for children through the efforts of trained, caring volunteers.
The volunteers, staff, managing board of directors, and advisory board of directors of Family Outreach comprise a variety of backgrounds, education, professions, and interests. There are single, married, and divorced women and men. Some are parents, some grandparents, some without children, some empty nesters. Family Outreach believes in investing time and energy in the life of a child who might be at risk, rather than intervening after the abuse has taken place. Treatment of child abuse after it occurs is more costly and much less effective. The emotional effects of child abuse and neglect can last a lifetime. Victims whose families do not receive help are at higher risk of repeating the cycle of child abuse. Society as a whole is affected when the child abuse cycle is not broken. Parenting is a complicated, demanding job. Very few parents have had any training in how to do it well. In addition, parents often find themselves in stressful life situations that affect their ability to be good parents. Family Outreach volunteers can help strengthen the ability of parents to meet the needs of their children and to enhance family relationships, thus reducing the risk of abuse or neglect.
